SERVICES

Meals
We produce good, nutritious but simple, traditional meals. Usually meals are home-made vegetable soup, main course (roast beef/chicken/turkey, vegetables and potatoes) and dessert

Mobility
As some clients may have mobility problems we provide a subsidised chiropody service in Longford town to maintain best mobility, and help with independent living

Cooperation
As a social service provider we liaise closely with other services to provide an integrated community effort

Funding
We sometimes receive some funding from central or local government but this has become very scarce. We have a shop re-selling fashion clothes which provides much needed funds and we raise money on flag day

About Longford Social Services
Mission Statement
Longford Social Services Council promotes better living standards for the elderly, people with disabilities and others in need in Longford town and county and its environs by providing, promoting and supporting social services which seek to :-
-
Engage in the provision of Meals on Wheels and generally, to promote, organise and develop a community project for those residing in, or having association with the area and its environs, providing services and facilities to promote self awareness and confidence.
-
Support equal access to opportunities such as education and employment and input in decision making structures which affect their lives in areas such as housing, health, social services, enterprise and like areas.
-
Promote the participation of local people in the management and running of the project.
-
Provide a community platform to allow people to voice their opinions and ideas and to develop a centre providing services, information, training and education.
-
Tackle isolation and social exclusion, to empower people by building self confidence and self worth and to support and complement other local community activities.
We are a voluntary body. Mainly, we provide delivered meals at reasonable prices to people who find it difficult, to allow them to live independently in their own homes.
We also have a very reasonably priced chiropody service, which helps people maintain their mobility as they become older.
We also have a shop selling pre-owned high quality clothing, which helps fund our other activities.
Meals are delivered using a fleet of vans by drivers and helpers who are either on employment schemes or are completely voluntary - no-one is paid for this, and our funds just keep the vans on the road. Meals comprise hot, home-made vegetable soup, a chilled, cooked main course and dessert (ready for microwave reheating) which are kept fresh in the refrigerated vans.
